Christmas Wonderland at Gardens by the Bay

By Spunktitude @spunktitud3

Christmas WonderlandCelebrating Christmas in tropical Singapore got a bit more special this year with over 30 impressive Italian-crafted Luminarie light sculptures and a European-style Festive Market set up at Gardens by the Bay.

Christmas Wonderland

A giant Christmas tree decorated with the Gardens’ signature dragonfly motif greets visitors at the Golden Garden, near the main attraction’s entrance. You can also see the 16-metre tall Frontone arrival arches, the first of the Luminarie light sculptures, leading you into a Christmas Wonderland located in the Flower Dome and the Supertree Grove.

The Luminaries light sculptures inspired by 16th and 17th-century Baroque architecture were hand-crafted by Paulicelli Illuminations International, a family of Italian craftsmen. I must say the specially-designed pieces blended very well into the tranquil atmosphere of the Gardens.

Some 95,000 bulbs were used to create the Luminaries, and each bulb meticulously placed by hand before being carefully shipped to Singapore.

At 17 metres tall and 31 metres wide, the Spalliera located just in front of Supertree Dining is the largest of the Luminaries.

Other than being a fab photo spot, also look out for the daily “Blizzard Time” (7.30PM, 8.20PM, 9.05PM and 9.45PM; weather permitting) where ‘snow’ made of foam is released to create a wintry scene.

The spectacular Spiegeltent, a two-century old traveling ‘mirror tent’ from the Netherlands makes its first appearance in Asia under the Supertrees. Made of 1,000 pieces of wood, canvas, brocade, exquisite mirrors and stained glass, visitors will get a chance to dine within this enchanting tent for a unique gastronomic experience.

Originally built in the late 19th and 20th century, only a handful remains in existence. Did you know this particular tent was once found abandoned at a railway station? Now it’s lovingly restored and traveling the world. What a fairytale.

Do drop by for a different Christmas experience in the tropics, and say cheese! :)
