Win tickets to the Clydeside Distillery
Glasgow's newest visitor attraction and single malt distillery, the Clydeside Distillery opened to the public a few weeks ago in November even though the whisky which it's producing won't be ready for a number of years! You may have noticed the copper stills being introduced to the once forlorn Pump House, which sits between the SEC and Riverside Museum. Now the historic building, built in 1877, has been given a new purpose in life!
Despite the Clydeside whisky not being ready yet, you can actually still visit and pop in for lunch, buy a bottle of whisky and/or take part in a tour where you'll find out all about the history of whisky-making in Glasgow. There used to be loads of distilleries dotted all over the city at one point I've discovered!
And at the end of the tour there are still tastings to be done, obviously not of the Clydeside whisky itself but two sister brands and another local whisky for comparison between the three different styles. Of the 3 whiskies to be sampled on my visit, I'd actually only tried one of them so you may get to try something which is new to you!
Open daily, except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and 2nd January. The distillery is brand new and fully accessible with wheelchair appropriate doors and lifts. To view the Still House requires visitors to walk across an open-vented, suspended floor so for comfort wear flat shoes.
