Christian Business Blogging and Christian Devotional Blogging

What’s different about Edna’s blog?

Edna’s blog is a Christian business blog. We are very few Christian business bloggers, even fewer if you only look at Christian women business bloggers. Yes, many Christians post their Amazon-affiliate links to Christian books on their blog. These are not Christian business bloggers as I understand the concept. Perhaps you’re wondering:

What is a Christian business blogger?

A Christian business blogger is devoted to sharing ideas about being a Christian in business; often this will be in online business. If you are new to the Christian marketplace, it’ll be easier for you to understand who the participants are by using two main categories:

Christian Devotional Bloggers & Christian Business Bloggers.

When you’ve been in the Christian marketplace for a while, you’ll see that the majority of the participants are Christian devotional bloggers. Most Christian devotional bloggers avoid, consciously or unconsciously to write about topics such as money, or business and sales. There can be many reasons for this, but it’s beyond discussion that this is a fact. However, you’ll see that many of the Christian devotional bloggers try to monetise their website by placing links, primarily to books on Amazon in their blog posts. I have nothing against Christian devotional bloggers on a personal level; I read several devotional blogs every week. Nevertheless, I highly disagree with how the majority of the Christian devotional bloggers approach the Christian marketplace. Therefore I say:

Christian devotional blogging and Christian business blogging has very very little in common.

I can give you additional reasons why I want to distance Edna’s blog from traditional Christian devotional blogging. First off, 97% of the Christian devotional bloggers pay little or no attention to SEO, Search Engine Optimisation. As Christian business bloggers, we know that we cannot afford to be ignorant about this topic. We will gladly invest in tools that will help us set up our websites, so they comply with general SEO-principles. Secondly, the blogging-style of a Christian business blogger is always more objective and fact-based than a blog post written by the majority of Christian devotional bloggers. An example: A Christian devotional blogger would not write a blog post like the one you’re reading right now. The style, the in-your-face-tone is perceived as inappropriate by most Christian devotional bloggers. On the other hand, we will see that most Christian business bloggers have difficulties in seeing the value of a traditional Christian devotional blog post. We understand that the blog post owner appreciates her or his faith, but most of the time, we have difficulties seeing any value in highly subjective blog post content, such as what this-or-that person felt while reading in the Bible this morning, or while standing in line in the local supermarket. In short:

Christian business bloggers don’t blog about subjective matters.

Is this negative or positive? I would say; none of the above. It’s not a question of what’s better; being a Christian devotional blogger or a Christian business blogger. The point is that these two participants in the Christian marketplace are very different from each other. If you’re considering becoming a Christian blogger the above is the first you ought to consider. If you’re trying to be both, you’ll get in severe problems with your website. I appreciate you!Edna DavidsenLeave a comment below or let me know any questions you have.
