Moody Dark Knight actor Christian Bale is the man you’d most like to see play Christian Grey in a film adaptation of the erotic bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey, according to a Periscope Post poll. Robert Pattinson, who brought to “life” the male lead of another massively popular book series, Edward Cullen of the Twilight saga, was the second most popular choice.

We asked 2,229 people on Facebook, “Who would you like to see play Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey?” Respondents were given a choice of eight potential Christian Greys; here’s what they came up with:

1.    Christian Bale 33%
2.    Robert Pattinson 17%
3.    Ryan Gosling – 14%
4.    Michael Fassbender – 11%
5.   Bradley Cooper – 10%
6.    Justin Timberlake – 6%
7.    Zach Galifianakis – 6%
8.    Chris Rock – 3%

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Bale was most popular with women between the ages of 35 and 44; men between the ages of 18 and 24, however, thought he was the least likely Christian Grey.

Pre-production for the hotly anticipated film adaptation of EL James’s insanely popular Fifty Shades series is already getting underway, with reports out that Universal, the studio behind the film, has narrowed the list of potential screenwriters down to four. Meanwhile, speculation continues to mount over who will play Anastasia Steele – our guess is that if Robert Pattinson does make it to the Christian Grey shortlist, it won’t be Kristen Stewart.
