Chinese Vice President Visits CPV Cemetery in Hoechang and Friendship Tower in Pyongyang

Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao and a PRC delegation visited the Chinese People’s Volunteers Cemetery of Fallen Fighters in Hoech’ang, South P’yo’ngan Province, and the Friendship Tower in Pyongyang on 26 July (Friday).  Li and the Chinese delegation attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the CPV Fallen Fighters’ Cemetery.  Also in attendance were Kang Ha Guk (Minister of Public Health and Chairman of the DPRK-China Friendship Association Central Committee), Kim So’ng-nam (Deputy Director of the Korean Workers’ Party [KWP] International Affairs Department), Col. Gen. Pyon In Son (Vice Minister of the People’s Armed Forces), Kim Hyong Jun (Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs), Ji Jae Ryong (DPRK Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China), officials of the South P’yo’ngan KWP Provincial Committee, the South P’yo’ngan Provincial People’s Committee, the Hoech’ang County KWP Committee, the Hoech’ang County People’s Committee, DPRK citizens of Hoech’ang County and personnel from the PRC Embassy in the DPRK.

Floral wreaths from Kim Jong Un (Kim Cho’ng-u’n), the Ministry of the People’s Armed Forces, the South P’yo’ngan KWP Provincial Committee, the South P’yo’ngan Provincial People’s Committee, the Hoech’ang County KWP Committee, the Hoech’ang County People’s Committee and a nearby Korean People’s Army [KPA] unit were in place as the ceremony participants arrived.  A floral wreath from Li Yuanchao and the PRC delegation was placed during the ceremony, followed by a wreath jointly sent by the KWP Central Committee, the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium and the DPRK Cabinet.  According to KCNA Li Yuanchao and the ceremony participants “paid silent tribute to the martyrs of the CPV who bravely fought on the Korean front against the invasion by the imperialist allied forces.”  Li and other participants also placed floral bouquets at the grave of Mao Anying, eldest son of late PRC leader Mao Zedong who was killed in a napalm strike during Korean War (Fatherland Liberation War) in November 1950.  Li and the PRC delegation also visited the So’nghu’ng Revolutionary Site, where he wrote in the guest book that “the exploits of the CPV would shine forever.”

Li Yuanchao and the PRC delegation also attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Friendship Tower in Pyongyang.  Attending the ceremony were Yang Hyong Sop (Vice President of the Supreme People’s Assembly Presidium), Kim Yang Gon (KWP Secretary and Director of the United Front Department), Ji Jae Ryong (DPRK Ambassador to the PRC), relevant DPRK officials, Pyongyangites and personnel from the PRC Embassy in the DPRK.  During the ceremony a floral wreath from Li Yuanchao and the PRC delegation was placed at the tower, followed by a wreath jointly sent by the Party Central Committee, SPA Presidium and DPRK Cabinet.  Wreaths from the MPAF, the Ministry of People’s Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Culture, the DPRK Education Commission, the Ministry of Railways along with wreaths jointly sent by the Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and DPRK China Friendship Association Central Committee, and by the Pyongyang City KWP Committee and the Pyongyang City People’s Committee were placed at the tower.  According to KCNA ceremony participants “observed moment’s silence in memory of the fallen fighters of the Chinese People’s Volunteers (CPV) who bravely fought shoulder to shoulder with the Korean service personnel on the Korean front under the banner of resisting America and adding Korea, safeguarding the home and defending the motherland” then walked around the tower.  In separate events, delegations of CPV veterans, the families of CPV war veterans and the culture and art delegation of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army [PLA] General Political Department’s Publicity Department visited the Friendship Tower.
