We’ve become snackers during all this time at home. Sometimes it’s out of boredom, but more often than not, it’s because I just need to stress eat something unhealthy for me. I’ve been mostly mowing through bags of Cheez-Its and these amazing spicy cheddar puffs I found at Sam’s Club, but the other day I found a box of unopened mini saltine crackers in my pantry and figured I could spice them up a bit with some things in my spice cabinet. So, here are my Chili Spiced Saltine Crackers!
They are deceptively easy and a nice twist on some plain crackers. You could absolutely swap out the seasonings or even use oyster crackers. I have a Garlic Parmesan Oyster Crackers recipe from way back on my blog (you’ll get to see some terrible from when I first got my camera!) if you’re looking for something a little less spicy! I also have a Cinnamon Sugar Oyster Crackers recipe if you’ve got a sweet tooth! But, if you want some southwest-ish spiced saltine crackers, look below for the recipe!
Chili Spiced Snack Crackers Recipe
1 box (11oz.) snack crackers
1 stick butter
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic
1 teaspoon onion
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
Pre-heat your oven to 250-degrees Fahrenheit.
Melt your butter in a small saucepan on the stove or in the microwave.
Next, add all of your spices to your melted butter and stir to combine.
In a large bowl, add your plain crackers and then drizzle the spiced butter mixture over them.
Stir to coat.
Pour your coated crackers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes.
Let your crackers sit for another 10 minutes before eating them to crisp up. Store in an airtight container for up to a week (if they last that long!)
