According to multiple sources, Brown, a Chicago native checked herself into the hospital complaining of chest pains earlier in the week, and  after running some tests the hospital sent her home.

Then on Friday morning,  Brown had some type of cardiac episode, that forced her family to call the paramedics. She was taken to Franciscan Health hospital, where she died around noon.

Robert Schroeder, Brown’s representative, said the star’s “untimely death” was sudden and from “natural causes.”

“We are devastated by the loss of a very talented and kindhearted soul. DuShon was a film, television, commercial and voice-over actress who also graced the stages of many Chicago theaters,” Schroeder said in a statement to USA TODAY. “She brought laughter and joy to many and will be greatly missed.”

Before landing a role on Chicago Fire, the former drama instructor at Kenwood Academy was cast as Nurse Katie Welch on the Fox series Prison Break.

Our thoughts and prayers are with DuShon’s family and friends.
