Chasing Lord Mystery by Aileen Fish is a 2014 release. I was provided a copy of this book by the author/publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This regency period novella was really cute. A group of guys make sa pact after one their friends is murdered by his wife to never marry. This should keep them from being hit with a hot poker by a scorned woman.
For Miriam her first season was nearly her last when she was openly shunned by a potential dance partner. Lord Northcotte stepped in and saved the day. Miriam never forgot him even though she didn't even know his name. Now staying with her very expectant friend and trying to avoid her grandfathers match making, Miriam finds Northcotte is also a guest. However, he doesn't appear to remember her. Instead he spends all his time trying avoid being caught in a compromising position with Miriam because he is positive she is trying to catch herself a husband.
Miriam took her fantasy of Northcotte a little too far. Six years is a really long time to hold every man you meet up to a one time encounter. For Northcotte making the no marriage pact after his friend is murdered is also taken just a hair too far as well. But, it did make for a great comedy of errors and misunderstandings. Despite it's brevity this is a charming story. This one gets 3 stars.
