Chanel Haute Couture 2012/2013
I find myself being very surprised by the Haute Couture collections for next season, not least because of the simple elegance that is shining through after seasons and seasons of extravagance and opulence with accessories and decoration beyond our wildest fantasies. It seams that the tide is turning and a focus on simplicity with Luxurious fabrics is the new style. Easy to wear, chic and effortless is the key!
No one can say that the current collections are boring or lack lustre, like this Chanel collection which has a modern silhouette but embellished, metallic fabrics which resemble wool, tweed and silks.
There is a focus on Confort in luxury. the “Tweed” fabric shown here in the sleeveless coat (top right) is in fact a hand embroidered fabric and took 3000 hours to create according to our beloved Karl Lagerfeld. Yes Three Thousand hours!
I love the metallic knitwear and easy silhouette which take on a sportswear feel with a Vintage 70s twist. Over sized coats seem to be making the trend along side Tailored suits, Metallic accessories and Pastel shades (see Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier).
This is one of my favorite ever Chanel collections because it makes me want to bundle on layers of soft fabric and wander through the streets of Paris feeling Chic and cosy. The collection can easily be taken apart and mixed with our fashion basics such as jeans or leather skirts. I think i will be investing in some Cashmere’s, pearls and soft leathers this winter to recreate this look for myself. The Leather gauntlets are particularly appealing because I have a lot of jackets with 3/4 length sleeves.
The fashion world seem to be interpreting the current economic climate and catering to our wants for comfort and quality in fashion that will see us through many trends without going out of style. That can only be a good thing for us fashionistas at the high street end, who will no doubt be able to find good reproductions of the Haute couture this coming winter, in stores such as H&M, Zara and Topshop.
