Chance The Rapper walked into the City Council meeting in Chicago on Wednesday to speak out against the city putting $95 million into a new police academy instead of its school system.
Chance said Chicago should be spending millions on underfunded schools, not on a new $95M police academy that he says the city can’t afford.
Down in the lobby, he huddled with students there to protest a school closing. And he took to social media, making #NoCopAcademy the top trending topic on Twitter in Chicago for hours.
Even with the rapper’s passionate speech, the alderman still voted 48-1 for the new Chicago police training academy, according to the Chicago Tribune.
