A Cessna 400 begins a takeoff roll from San Carlos Airport. The 400, Cessna’s fastest piston single-engine aircraft, was derived from the normally aspirated Columbia 300, which in turn was derived from the Lancair ES kit aircraft. The founder of Lancair created Columbia Aircraft to develop the Columbia 300/400 designs but the company went bankrupt and Cessna then bought the design. This plane was sold originally as the Cessna 400, then was given the marketing name Corvalis TT (twin turbocharged) in 2009. Introduced in 2004, only 301 were delivered by the time production ended in 2016.
