Ceremonial Burning of Old Philippine Flags at CCP

The Cultural Center of the Philippines held the Ceremonial Burning of old Philippine Flags dubbed as "Huling Pagpupugay sa Watawat ng Pilipinas" at the CCP Ramp.

Prior to the burning ceremony, the old Philippine flags were first cut into pieces and placed on a large metal basin where they were burned. The ashes of the burnt flags were then placed in an urn followed by a ceremonial burial at the Center's Front lawn. The event was attended by CCP president Raul Sunico and CCP Board Chair Emily Abrera together with the CCP employees.

This activity was held in compliance with Section 14 of Republic Act No. 8491 known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines which states that worn out flags shall not be thrown away but shall be solemnly burned to avoid misuse or desecration. The event, which CCP did for the first time since the Center's inauguration, was also highlighted by a special program featuring performances by singers Joey Ayala and Bayang Barrios. Representatives from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines were present to witness the said momentous occasion.
