The holiday season is merry and bright at NorthPark Center as they celebrate “A Season of Light.” Setting the stage for a magical holiday experience is beautiful décor of twinkling lights, bountiful plantings, and interactive displays featuring the season’s most notable characters.
A spectacular new installation by renowned artist, Jim Campbell, entitled Scattered Light will draw visitors to the CenterPark Garden with its cascading grid of flickering light. The work, which was recently on view at Madison Square Park in New York City, creates the illusion of figurative images through its 3-D matrix of thousands of hanging light bulbs. It promises to be Dallas’ most photographed light display this holiday season.
Bells will be ringing at NorthPark Center starting November 1 to encourage visitors to donate their spare change through The Salvation Army Kettle Campaign, which raises important funds for year-round programs at more than a dozen Salvation Army centers in North Texas. Make the holiday season a memorable one for those in need by giving presents, clothing and necessities through The Salvation Army Angel Tree. Choose an Angel from The Angel Tree, drop off your gift by December 9, and The Salvation Army will make your delivery in time for Christmas.
The SPCA of Texas joins forces with the National Association of the Remodeling Industry of Greater Dallas and other community organizations for the “Home for the Holidays” campaign featuring custom dog houses. Running November 14-December 8, the dog houses will be raffled off with tickets available for $5 a piece or five raffle tickets for $20. The drawing will be held at the close of the event, and one of the dog houses will be named “Top Dog” as the most popular based on ticket sales. Event proceeds will benefit the SPCA of Texas’ 2014 efforts to rescue, heal and find homes for thousands of animals in North Texas.
The unpredictable Scrooge Puppet Theatre and the “real” Santa Claus will be present throughout the season beginning the day after Thanksgiving. “Sights and Sounds of the Season” will fill the corridors with orchestral, choral, and dance performances by dozens of North Texas elementary, middle and high school students, adult groups and all-city choirs. Community groups from around North Texas will generate much of their yearly support, including The Trains at NorthPark benefitting the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, providing a home-away-from-home for families in need; the Wish Fountain benefitting the North Texas Food Bank and many others.
