Cedar Point Markets HalloWeekends in 2011 Effectively. Without the Controversy.

Posted on the 21 October 2011 by Chrisbrown @ChrisBrown330

Last year I talked about the problems I had with Cedar Point’s marketing position of their halloween attractions and I’m happy to see that for 2011 Cedar Point is marketing their HalloWeekends with many mazes, monsters and fun, but scary attractions.

What I really appreciate this year, is that they are being socially responsible and not increasing the social stigma of mental illness. Thank you!

I know this has been one of my more controversial posts from 2010. Being in the marketing profession, I know there are a lot of grey areas. I strongly believe that it’s important to draw your own line in the sand for ethics, social responsiblity and good taste. One of my pet peeves is sensationalism, particularly when it perpetuates a stigma.

As a marketing professional, where do you draw the line?  What have you been asked to market but you feel steps over the line? How did you handle it?  Did you turn down the job or modify the offering?
