The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) will celebrate the Global Environment Clearing Day by organising nearly 1,000 environment cleaning programmes countrywide from today.
The objective of launching this programme is to encourage everybody to clean their environment regularly from this date. The CEA will conduct this programme with the assistance of several state and private sector institutions. The programme will also be assisted by the ‘Zero plastic National Movement’ who is engaged in invaluable environment cleaning programmes in the country.
According to the programme, all rivers, lakes, forests, sea beaches, roads and many other places countrywide will be cleaned regularly from this date.
CEA Director General Hemantha Jayasinghe said such a programme was launched by over 50,000 health workers in Estonia in 2008 and it had become a very successful programme in the country. He said such a programme will not only help to clean the environment but it will also benefit all humans, animals and the most important fauna and flora.
Hemantha Jayasinghe also requested all people to help this programme and continue it to create an environment free from pollution.
