CD Review: Ninoosh – Town of 200

This is the debut EP from Anya Trybala AKA electronic noodling chanteuse Ninoosh, showing off 6 quite unique and diverse electro-pop offerings!

The great thing about this EP is there is so much activity hidden below the surface. Each track brings forth its own atmosphere and life, with curious beats, chilling sounds, and strong and beautiful vocals.

The EP opens with the industrial / droney instrumental 'Snow Crunch'. The music takes many twists along its two minute duration creating a vivid and epic journey through sound. This is followed in bright and colourful contrast with 'People in speakers'. Rolling along in a slow and placid fashion the song gradually brings out a gentle ray of light like an early morning sunrise. 'Fears of life' is a darker tune with a deep and active underlying atmosphere, held together with a cool trip-hop beat. 'That sinking feeling' is a more upbeat and poppy tune full of energy while also having a slightly deep and dark vibe just under the surface. 'Palms' is a key attraction on the EP. A slow moving tune sounding somewhere between Massive Attack and Portishead, the music flows along in a chilling fashion. Ninoosh's ice cold vocals are breathtakingly beautiful give the song a massive burst of emotion.

The EP closes with the slow and heartbreaking sounds of 'Football' that uses the heartbreak and loss of one's team not winning as a clever metaphor!

This is a stunning collection of songs full of vibrant sounds, deep atmosphere, and absolutely stunning vocals. There is so much going on in each of these tracks that you could listen to it over and over and still find something fresh and new!
