CBS finally made a decision on CSI: Cyber, and it was for the better. The spinoff originally started as a planted episode, like NCIS: New Orleans, and has now turned into a full fledged series. This marks Patricia Arquette’s return to CBS following the time she spent with Medium. This is the third CSI spinoff, following the previously cancelled :Miami and :NY.
This was a good year for planted spinoffs, as CSI: Cyber, NCIS: New Orleans, and The Flash all received series orders. Unfortunately, the fourth spinoff, Bloodlines, was rejected at the CW.
CBS has yet to pass official judgment on The Mentalist, but with SIX new drama series, and very few open slots to plug, the assumption would be that The Mentalist will not be returning. As far as the comedies go, should CBS not pick up any new sitcoms, The Crazy Ones or Friends With Better Lives would likely get a reprieve.
