CBD and the Human Endocannabinoid System

Posted on the 15 February 2019 by Vapeshopuk

CBD is known to help treat lots of things, from anxiety to seizures to diabetes. Another thing it helps with is the Human Endocannabinoid system, and today I am going to talk through what this is and how it's done.

What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system made up of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors and cannabinoid receptor proteins in the body.

How does CBD work with the Endocannabinoid System?

Recent studies have discovered that the endocannabinoid system doesn't just respond to the endocannabinoids produced in the body, but also responds to external cannabinoids such as the phytocannabinoid cannabidiol, or CBD. Introducing CBD to the body helps reduce the symptoms of a wide range of illnesses fike epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, chronic inflammation, depression, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, anxiety, and opioid withdrawal.

CB1 and CB2 Receptors

The endocannabinoid system is made up of CB1 and CB2, two types of receptors that serve distinct functions in health and well being. CB1 receptors are mainly found in the brain and the central nervous system, while CB2 receptors are mainly in the peripheral organs and the cells associated with the immune system. CBD (cannabidiol) and CBN (cannabinol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) fit like a lock and key into existing human receptors. THC can fit into the CB1 Receptor, CBN into the CB2 Receptor and CBD into both CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Some of the benefits of activating CB1 Receptors include helping with depression, lowering inflammation of intestines, reducing blood pressure and helping with anxiety.

Some of the benefits of activating CB2 Receptors can be linked to almost every type of human disease and even a role in the liver and kidney function, bone and skin health, cancer and pain related illnesses.

Now you should know how CBD affects the Endocannabinoid system, and the effects this has. Happy Vaping!
