It’s a shame that the first time I’ve actually seen Nicholas Braun with range, and the film doesn’t have audio description. So, despite starring one of my favorite rising stars in Amelia Jones, who I did name Best Actress in 2021 for her performance in Coda, and Braun giving her best work, this odd relationship dark comedy is unwatchable. Don’t worry, I’ll tell you why.
there are times here where Jones has conversations that make you wonder how they are being presented. is she slipping in and out of sanity, or something else? Jones is having conversations with herself. Somehow. I’m not sure how. but she is. Braun seems to be playing someone who seems like a great first date idea, but slowly becomes more and more of a pain. The thing is that none of the aspects like what these characters are wearing, where are they, is anyone around, who entered, who exited… there’s just a really long list.
Do I ever grade a film without audio description? sure. But very very rarely now. Accessibility is important, and while this quirky indie may not have gotten much attention, it’s someone’s job to make sure when it lands on Hulu, it is accessible for all of Hulu’s subscribers.
Final Grade: Unwatchable
Projected Final Grade if It Had Audio Description: C, C+, B-, B
