A mandatory carrier bag charge starts today, so remember your tote bag!
In a bid to tackle Scotland’s litter problem the fee has been introduced, but it does not just apply to plastic bags. It has also been imposed on single-use carriers made from eco-friendly materials.
The minimum charge applies to all retailers, not just supermarket, including the paper bags given out by places such as McDonalds.
It is estimated that 800 million single-use bags are given out by supermarkets every year in Scotland alone.
So stick a reusable bag in your rucksack, handbag or car!
