Carrie Preston (Arlene Fowler) has a lot to celebrate right about now. She recently won an Emmy for the Good Wife and is about to return to the show, Darwin: the Series has reached its funding goal, and she is also part of HBO’s True Blood. The actress spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about her appearence on this Sunday’s The Good Wife episode, her Emmy win, and True Blood.

According to Preston, she’s still the same mercurial and unexpected and mysterious lawyer that has endeared her to audiences. But the first time we see Elsbeth in this episode, she’ll be at a treadmill desk. What is is treadmill desk anyway? Apparently, it’s a treadmill that has some sort of desk on it so people can walk and work at the same time. The scene become one of Carrie’s favorites to shoot!

But don’t expect Elsbeth to get involved with Cary and Alicia’s plans to start their own firm. Her case is pretty self contained. DO expect her to face off against Viola Walsh played Rita Wilson though:

“She squares off with Rita Wilson‘s character [Viola Walsh], which is quite fun. We haven’t seen Rita Wilson’s character in a while and these are two very different — albeit smart — women. It’s fun to see how they go head to head. That was satisfying to shoot. I had not met Rita before but she’s wonderful. That’s what I’m most curious to see how it came together.”

As for Carrie’s Emmy win last month, it was certainly a surprise to her.  She admitted to interviewer Philiana Ng that she barely remembers giving the speech let alone anything else. But it was obviously a very pleasant surprise.

True Blood’s seventh and final season was also discussed. Carrie says that the series is poised to return to its origins this year and although it is sad to see the show go, Preston feels like this is this best decision to end it while the stories are still strong and the cast and crew has the energy to make the season one of the best ever. The only thing she doesn’t hope happens is Arlene falling in love:

“I think it was great how they let her take the bar over. I don’t think that surprised anybody but at the same time, it was great to see Arlene get a little bit of power in this world and I’m hoping she’ll find solace in that. I hope they don’t pair her up with somebody. I’d like to see her be a strong woman and be OK in the world as a mom and an owner of a business and not be someone who doesn’t feel complete if she doesn’t have a man. This would be a nice evolution for her.”
