The Cardboard Boxes by the Numbers – Recycling Stats infographic by Assured Self Storage displays some of the more interesting facts about cardboard recycling being done in the United States. With over 90% of all items shipped within the U.S. using cardboard packaging, cardboard has become the number one manufactured product in the waste stream by weight. The good news is that in 2011, 91% of corrugated cardboard is being recycled. By recycling just one ton of cardboard it saves nine cubic yards of landfill space, 700 gallons of water, and 46 gallons of oil from being consumed.
