Canadair CF-104D Starfighter

November 2007

This two seat Starfighter was flown by the Canadian Armed Forces from its delivery in 1962 to 1973 when it was sold to the Norwegian Air Force where it served until its retirement on 1982.  Since then, it has changed hands frequently, even spending time in the EAA collection.  I saw the aircraft during the 2007 Aviation Nation airshow at Nellis AFB.  This was the first aircraft to achieve sustained Mach 2 flight and the first to hold speed and altitude records simultaneously, as well as the first to reach 100,000 feet.  Image taken with Nikon D70, processed in iPhoto.
