Where can you find Canada’s best wildlife?
If you’re a wildlife lover looking for a holiday full of incredible creatures, why not try Canada for your next adventure?
Canada’s vast and largely unspoilt wilderness is home to a diverse ecosystem, including seals, bison, moose and many other animals, which it is incredibly rare to see outside of a zoo and in their natural habitat. However, the real star of the show as far as wildlife is concerned is almost certainly Canada’s array of wild bears. From grizzlies to polar bears, Canada is crammed full of places to spot and enjoy bears in the wild. Some of our favorite places to spot and observe bears are listed below.
The Great Bear Rainforest
Situated within the British Columbia region, the Great Bear Rainforest is a source of truly breathtaking scenery. Intrepid bear explorers can stay in extremely comfortable lodges adding a touch of luxury to the otherwise wild environment. Visitors can then take advantage of a number of viewing platforms in areas which are regularly teeming with bears, as well as exploring the waterways while bears fish in the river. In addition to the more frequently found black bears and grizzlies, this is the only location on Earth where the Kermode Spirit Bear can be seen – an elusive and ghostly white bear, of which only a few hundred remain.
British Columbia
Speaking of British Columbia, the region on Canada’s Pacific Coast is home to many wild animals. These include black bears and grizzlies, that can often be observed fishing in the lakes and rivers of the beautiful mountainous region. The close proximity to tourist hotspots such as Vancouver and Victoria mean that a bear spotting adventure can be combined with more traditional holiday experiences. Adventurers in British Columbia can also enjoy climbing, winter sports and the chance to see the world’s largest mammal on whale watching cruises.
Manitoba
Manitoba is central Canada province. Hudson Bay on the north coast has an arctic climate, and is home to black bears, bison, beluga whales, wolves and polar bears. The nearby town of Churchill is often referred to as Polar Bear Capital of the World, and visitors can combine a tundra safari with a visit to the Eskimo Museum, kayaking, hiking and even dog sledding. At certain times of the year, Churchill is one of the best places possible to see the Northern Lights.
Whether you are dreaming of a once in a lifetime adventure holiday or simply want to explore some of the country’s majestic wildlife as part of a wider tour, bear watching in Canada is a truly unforgettable experience.
