Can PDF Files Be Edited? Yes – Here’s How

Chances are if you've received documents by email or you've pulled up information online, it was presented in PDF form. Many times, PDFs are sent as a contract that you have to sign or initial, but it's not always easy to figure out how to make adjustments to the file.

You might ask yourself, "Can PDF files be edited"? The answer is yes. Take a look at the information below to learn the different ways of doing so:

Adobe Acrobat DC

You can edit a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat by doing the following:

  • Go to File> Open
  • Click the PDF tool in the right panel

Next, click on a text image that you want to edit. Adobe Acrobat will show all of the editing tools you'll require to format your text.

After you've made adjustments, save the file once you're done.

Microsoft Word

If you have a 2013 or newer version of Microsoft Word, it's one of the most simple ways to edit a PDF document.

Begin by opening Microsoft Word and click File

Next click open to choose the PDF file you want to edit from the document tab.

After that point, you'll receive a message advising that Word will convert your PDF to an editable doc that Microsoft Word can display. But don't worry, it won't alter the original PDF.

Click OK to make changes to your document, then select File>Save to save it back to the PDF format.

Google Docs

Using Google Docs to edit PDF files is another easy way to alter a PDF document.

Sign in to Google Drive, then click New on the upper left-hand side of your screen.

Click File Upload

In the document tab, select the PDF file that you want to edit and choose Open.

Once the file is uploaded, select Recent on the left panel to find the PDF that you recently uploaded. Right-click on the PDF file name and choose Open With Google Docs.

A new, editable Google Docs file will generate.

Double click on it to make your edits, then redownload it as a PDF file.

PDF Editor

A PDF editor allows you to edit, modify the text, add images, sign your name, and more. With these types of editors, you can use your web browser to alter the PDF file and then save it to your computer or cloud storage.

Not all editors have the same features, and you'll have to choose a PDF editor that fits your needs. If you're looking for a program that allows you to do a lot more with PDFs, like coding and converting HTML files, check out .NET PDF generation.
