Story: Called to Duty starts as we meet an air show fighter pilot unit of women. They are led by Country (Jane) with Edge (Collesides), Riddles (Mosko), Riot (Star), Bear (Pangaro) and Wiki (Seelig) completing the unit. However, the male pilots look down on them doubting they could beat them in the skies.

After the unit goes too far to prove a point, they find themselves suspended. Meanwhile, the higher-ups see their manoeuvring talent and recruit them for their latest mission. Lt. Harris (Baena) must prepare the unit demanding that both sexes put their differences aside to complete the mission.

Verdict on Called to Duty

Called to Duty is an action thriller following a female demonstration unit they get a new series of instructions. They find themselves having to overcome sexist opinions to prove themselves as equal or better than the men questioning them. Even if it means they need to overcome their own personal beliefs on war.

This could easily be broken down to be a female-led Top Gun. With that being said, it looks to prove that female pilots are equally as skilled as male pilots and that everyone in the same military force should respect each other. The idea that they need to complete a high-risk mission using their own flight skills is the main draw for the story. It keeps everything feeling intense, knowing we will get high-risk manoeuvres.

The cast shows excellent chemistry with Susannah Jane and Cabrina Collesides showing the sisterhood despite clashes. They need to show through the movie to make them feel like a unit. The soundtrack is also standout, hype us up during any of the flight sequences. There is probably only one weakness in the movie and that is the lack of the display manoeuvres in the actual mission. This is because it has been such an important part of the training mission, but we don’t get it during the active combat mission.

Where to Watch: Called to Duty is released on TVOD on the 1st of July 2023.

Final Thoughts Called to Duty is a great high-octane action movie.
