  • Call of Duty: The Black Ops Cold War kicks off November 13th.
  • The game is set in the early 1980s as you investigate a conspiracy that could destabilize the world.
  • The versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X arrive sometime during this vacation.

Activision, Treyarch and Raven have finally revealed Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and it promises to be a fascinating game in more ways than one.

The story-based first-person shooter is expected to be released on November 13 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One (more on next generation launches soon) and is a "direct sequel" to the original Black Ops that continues the sequel Drama of the Cold War. You join in in the early 1980s when you uncover the plot of Perseus, a mysterious person who seeks to "destabilize" the world. It is loosely based on Yuri Bezmenov's claims of a Soviet plan to infiltrate Western intelligence with an elite spy.

The single player campaign takes you to locations from Moscow and East Berlin to Turkey and Vietnam. You'll join well-known characters like Hudson, Mason, and Woods, and wield an assortment of Cold War-era weapons.

The multiplayer experience won't be released until September 9th on the Call of Duty Twitch channel. However, there are promises of a joint further development with the Warzone Battle Royale mode and a "brand new" Zombies mode.

As for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions? It is currently planned that these will only arrive sometime during the 2020 holiday season, depending on "when consoles are available". Microsoft and Sony are believed to be playing a game of "chicken" on the launch details (probably so that one doesn't undercut the price). Therefore, there is a chance that you will have to wait until after November 13th to play one of the new systems.

This is the first Call of Duty game for both consoles. It's not sure how the new hardware will improve the experience, but 4K support and faster load times are possible. Whatever happens, there's a good chance this will be one of the first games for many PS5 and Xbox Series X owners - it could shape their impressions of the new technology as much as the Call of Duty franchise.
