Launched in San Diego last year ‘Dog TV’ is a television channel designed just for dogs that can now be seen all over California. Now ‘Dog TV’ has branched out all the way to pet parents in Israel.The channels purpose is to entertain the canine viewers and keep them calm and content all day while no one is home. The programs featured on ‘Dog TV’ run up to six minutes and contain no footage or sounds that will stress out or frighten the pooch.
“The Humane Society of America suggests leaving your TV on for your dog when you go out,” CEO of the Dog TV company Gilad Neumann told the Jerusalem Post. “But what do you leave on? Animal Planet often shows violent images of animal killings, and that can upset a dog. People put on CNN but then again dogs are upset by seeing violence. And commercials can be loud and irritating.”It is true that leaving the TV or radio on while out can help sooth a dog but the problem is that there is no way to guarantee that some content will traumatize the animal. By eliminating those loud, sudden noises, violent images and designing programs with the pooch in mind ‘Dog TV’ claims to be “scientifically developed and pup approved.”To reduce anxiety and feelings of abandonment in a dog reduce the risk of unwanted chewing and destruction in the home with the owner is at work or school. ‘Dog TV’ could mean that you don’t lose a pair of shoes or a piece of your couch this week. ‘Dog TV’ claims to be scientifically proven to do just that, reducing stress in not only the dog but the dog owner as well. To be able to leave the home and trust that the dog will not wreak havoc on the house is the goal and this channel could help pet parents achieve that.The website states that "Dog TV is cable's first television network for dogs that is created exclusively for canines, and the humans who love them," and it just may be the norm across the globe in the near future. Pet parents are becoming more informed and concerned when it comes to the overall health of their animals- mental health included. ‘Dog TV’ is now available on Channel 39 in Israel and is still available in San Diego and throughout the state of California.
