Caleb and I Don’t Share the Same Taste in Music. He Likes...

Caleb and I don’t share the same taste in music. He likes bossanova, and I like things that people can’t hear in elevators.

The other night, we got in a fight about who has better taste in hip hop in front of our friend Constantine. Caleb claimed that I only listen to “pop” hip hop, and I said that just because he owns a Tribe Called Quest album doesn’t make him different than any other white boy. Constantine then swooped in to give equal weight to either side, and ended up agreeing with me that Katy Perry occasionally has a good song.

The truth of the matter is that I win, because Caleb doesn’t actually listen to hip hop, he just knows what people who now listen to “Band of Horses” are supposed to think is “good” hip hop.

But I came of age in the fucking late 1990s. Music by people with acronyms for names is my fucking jam.

Which brings me to a recommendation. Listen to the soundtrack for The Wackness, which features a lot of ’90s classics, if you’re looking for something to download for the weekend.

  1. The What?” — The Notorious B.I.G. feat. Method Man
  2. You Used to Love Me” — Faith Evans
  3. Flava in Ya Ear” — Craig Mack feat. The Notorious B.I.G.
  4. Summertime” — DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince
  5. Can’t You See” — Total feat. The Notorious B.I.G.
  6. I Can’t Wake Up” — KRS-One
  7. The World Is Yours” — Nas
  8. Can I Kick It?” — A Tribe Called Quest
  9. Heaven & Hell” — Raekwon
  10. Bump n’ Grind” — R. Kelly
  11. Just a Friend” — Biz Markie
  12. “Tearz” — Wu-Tang Clan
  13. “Long Shot Kick De Bucket” — The Pioneers
  14. All The Young Dudes” — Mott the Hoople
  15. Season of the Witch” — Donovan

Faith Evans? The What? The fucking Fresh Prince? I’m waving my arm already.
