Halloween is in a few weeks, so in an attempt to get in the "spirit" I've been trying out some of the Halloween treats now gracing supermarket shelves. One I've never tried before for some odd reason is Cadbury Crunchy Spiders, despite the fact they've been around for a few years.
These are spider-shaped spheres of Cadbury milk chocolate, containing pieces of green crisped rice balls, and are suitable for vegetarians. You can find them alongside Cadbury Ghooost Eggs in most shops on a two for £1 offer right now.
I wasn't expecting a lot from these since Cadbury chocolate isn't upto much these days, but actually, they surprised me in being rather tasty. I put this down to the inclusion of crispy rice balls rather than the chocolate though.
Taking a bite, it was nice to see that the rice balls were indeed green, so at least Cadbury haven't taken the fun out of these like they have with Ghooost Eggs. This was a pleasant eat indeed; sweet chocolate complemented perfectly with crunchy rice. It's a bit like a Cadbury version of Nestle Crunch, but with creamier chocolate.
Overall, this is one Halloween treat that's actually pretty decent. I've been disappointed so far with Cadbury Ghooost Eggs and even a Reese's Pumpkin that looked nothing like a pumpkin, but this is tasty, cheap and a bit of fun.
