Harnessing the sounds of southern soul, gospel and blues, Bywater Call was formed by Meghan Parnell and Dave Barnes in 2017. Led by the raw, powerful vocals of Parnell and the soulful slide guitar of Barnes, the band also features Bruce McCarthy on drums, Mike Meusel on Bass and Alan Zemaitis on Keys. In 2018, a 2-piece horn section was added in the form of Stephen Dyte on Trumpet and Julian Nalli on Tenor Sax.Drawing influences from artists such as The Allman Brothers Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, The Band and The Wood Brothers, Bywater Call's passion to create a powerful and moving experience has seen them rapidly rise through the ranks of their homeland's music scene.
In 2018, Bywater Call broke into the competitive Canadian festival circuit, playing Main Stages at the Tremblant International Blues Festival, Donnacona Blues Festival, the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival and the Markham Jazz Festival to name just a few,andthey have continued to build their presence in this spacewith confirmed appearances at the Aurora Winter Blues, Orangeville Blues Festival, Beaches Jazz Festival and the TD Toronto Jazz Festival already locked infor the next 12 months.In early 2020 Bywater Call will also tour Europe for the first time, visiting 9 countries in 45 days.
A true testament to the band's strong, stirring and inspiring live performance is that this has all come about before the recording and release of their self-titled album, set to debut on Nov 22, 2019. With elements of jam band, traditional blues, soul and rock and roll, with touches of New Orleans, Alabama and small town Ontario, combined with solid musicianship based in jazz, and with their gritty, raw and emotional vocals, Bywater Call seeks to strike to the core of all who listen.The 10 tracks on the debut offer a great introduction to this exciting new band.
