Bye Bye Drop Side Cribs

Bye Bye Drop side cribs
I have decided I am a pack rat when it comes to baby items. I just can't stand the thought of putting our first son's drop side crib at the corner for the garbage man. I know it's not safe and can't be used again, but I just can't put it out there. Can't I find some use for the wood?My point is that those drop side cribs will never be made again. They are gone forever-and for good reason. Several children died when the side opened up and the child got caught in between the rail and the mattress.
FROM NBC: The cribs were meant to help parents get babies in and out of bed, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission banned them last year because experts said malfunctioning hardware or assembly problems can cause the drop-side rail to detach and create a gap between the rail and the mattress -- where babies can get stuck and suffocate.

The cribs have been linked to dozens of infant deaths over the past 10 years.
Daycare centers and hotels have until 2013 to replace their drop-side cribs.
