Businessman Complains of Extortion by May 9 Activists After 13 Months

A businessman has filed a complaint with the Maharagama Police regarding a robbery  committed by a group of activists on May 9, 2022, near the Maharagama Police Station, thirteen months after the incident. The complaint has been made by a 49-year-old businessman, a resident of Katuwana Galkanukoratuwa. The businessman has complained to the police that a group of around 200 had attacked the bus he was traveling with a group of people after attending a meeting at Temple Trees held under the patronage of then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He has complained to police that they robbed him of Rs.10,000 and a gold chain worth around Rs.730,000.

Maharagama Police said that an investigation is being conducted regarding this complaint.
