Bushwick/Williamsburg Street Art Goes Pop...

By Boberika @boberika

Thanks Brooklyn Street Art for tips on where to go to check out graffiti. There isn't much graffiti left in Williamsburg as a lot has been painted over or removed due to new buildings and renovated ones. The closest area to where I was staying for the type I was after was in an area called Bushwick. Bushwick reminded me a bit of Hackney Wick in East London with it's huge warehouses, factories, and a mishmash of buildings. Both are becoming more built-up and the transition from vandalism to legal painting seems to be the way forward and a focal point of debate between graffiti enthusiasts and detractors. But whether they discourage vandalism or not, different types of artists jump at the opportunity to paint large murals or stencil pieces on legal sites. It also means that that a simple tag won't stand out these days, so it either has to be big or thought provoking to capture your attention and differentiate you from the others. The style in by the Bushwick artists seemed to be less political and more fairytale-like compared to London's East End. What do you think?
