The Songkran Festival to celebrate Thai New Year is a great reason to check out Fairground, a new food and cultural venue, on Kingsland Road.
Set over Fairground’s three floors the Busaba Songkran Festival will feature a Busaba Eathai pop-up restaurant, resident wok-masters Chef Hesh Daud and Chef Sasi Meechamnan will share their skills at free ‘CookThai’ classes held throughout the day and there will also be Thai music, cultural dancing, animal mask making and pandan cupcake decorating.
More food will be available from the Busaba StreeThai van, ex-Nahm chef Andy Oliver’s Som Saa, and Street Feast favourites Yum Jungle.
“The Busaba Songkran pop-up will look like a ‘deconstructed’ version of Busaba” says Busaba Development Director Joel Falconer. “Many of the elements familiar to our loyal customers will still be there but people should expect something fun and quite different.”
Executive Chef Jude Sangsida explains that “Songkran is a time to renew, refresh and cleanse. Part of that is water so in Thailand we have a big water fight! It’s humid and steamy and we find the nearest bucket or buy water pistols and go out into the streets and play”. Maybe an Dalston April shower will be enough.
