Bus Fares Increased by 4%

The National Transport Commission has permitted to raise bus fares by four percent effective from midnight yesterday following the recent fuel price increase.

The price of a liter of diesel was increased by Rs.35 from August 31 night.

The National Transport Commission claims that there will be no change in the minimum bus fare which is currently Rs.30.

Accordingly, fares of luxury buses plying on highways will also be increased in relation to this bus fare revision. The Transport Minister has approved the new price revision for all 350 sections.The All-Island United Container Transport Owners’ Association said container transportation charges will be increased by 5 percent, with effect from midnight yesterday. Accordingly, transportation charges for import and export freight containers are set to increase as mentioned above, Association President, Sanath Manjula said. Meanwhile, school children transportation charges would also be increased by 5 percent from midnight yesterday due to the recent diesel price hike, Spokesman from the All Ceylon Schoolchildren’s Transport Service Association said.
