On the morning of Saturday 11th February 2012 I attended a site visit of the works being carried out on the Burgess Park project. It was hosted by Ruth Miller of Southwark Council and representatives from Balfour Beatty, the contractor responsible for delivering this project.
We were informed the car park area and the play ground (adjacent to Chumleigh Gardens) are both due for completion in March 2012. The rest of the contract is due for completion in June 2012, this is subject to unforeseen delays.
Below is a plan locating the photographs taken on this visit, I believe the base plan (produced by LDA) is the current proposals.

The rain gardens at the Camberwell Road entrance are under construction. These will accommodate surface water runoff from the adjacent paving. The planting is specified to thrive in the anticipated moist/ wet soil conditions. To the left of the image the newly formed grass banks can be seen.

The entrance from Camberwell Road has been widened and access from Camberwell Road will be opened up.

The Ecological gardens, adjacent to St. George’s Way, are near completion. The majority of the hard landscape elements are in place, this will be followed shortly with the planting. There are granite sett bandings across the footpaths, these are in the locations of the former garden boundaries that used to be in existence in this part of the park.

The excavations to the lake enlargement have taken place, all the existing fish in the lake are still alive. These are in the section of the lake nearest the Old Kent Road.

The new bridge across the lake is complete.

‘Swims’ have been constructed to provide better facilities for local fishermen.

When works to the lake are complete water levels will be reinstated to their former level.

The Old Kent Road entrance has been ramped to provide better access to all members of the community.

A wet woodland is in the process of being created. This will receive runoff from the Great Lawn before it drains into the main lake.
