Buffalo Book Review: I’d Like To Apologize To Every Teacher I Ever Had - Tony Danza

Dear Tony Danza:
Hello, I am a recent reader of your Memoir, I’d Like To Apologize To Every Teacher I Ever Had - My Year as a Rookie Teacher at Northeast High. I am writing to share my thoughts and opinions about your book. At first Mr. Danza you come off as . . . how does one say this, an egotistic prick. I felt that you would not last a week without the fancy cameras and tons of wise teaching mentors supplying you with avid advice. Similar to Ms. DeNaples, I am quick to judge.
Reading further, I found myself right inside of your classroom. Your language and natural story telling abilities found me captive. I was actively completing the Do It Now assignment and egging on Al G’s next class distraction to see your reaction. Your successes in the classroom are so purely shared; candidly, the failures are raw and so personally painful stated.
The closing of your memoir where you state, “Teachers and students need help, not accusations and pay cuts" addresses the real issue of education - national proactive commitment. I want to thank you for publicly standing and voicing concerns about this deep-rooted issue. I wish the best to you, your students, the teaching community, and your family. I am certain new teachers, old-hats, and everyone in-between will find your book enticing, endearing, and empowering as I did.
All the Best,
Brianna Mae
