Budget Smartphone of the week – Samsung Galaxy Y S5360
This week’s budget smartphone goes to ….. yes! Samsung Galaxy Y S5360 or also know as the Samsung Galaxy Young. When I first made a review on this phone on 1st December 2011, I was taken by surprise because of the sheer number of traffics that I got! During that time the Galaxy Y was a hit and almost everybody was cramming the net to get more information about the device. I was inundated with numerous questions in the comment section and sadly I was not able to respond to all queries! I can’t forget that incident, the only week ever that I got a large amount of traffic. During that time, the phone was sold for RM499 and was intended by Samsung for young users or anybody who is a first time buyer of a smartphone.
The device today is available with RM154 less than the original price. At Lazada you can purchase it for RM345 and a quick stroll to Lelong.com.my revealed a mixed price, some offering at RM359 with others at RM409 with a diverse models of the Galaxy Y, such as the Samsung Galaxy Y PRO with QWERTY keyboard and the Galaxy Y Duos S6102 (dual SIM). In is important to note however that a potential buyer need to check the authenticity of both device and seller especially when dealing with Lelong store. It is also a good idea to check your local store, you might be surprised that the phone is sold less than price offered on online stores.
Briefly the device has the following specs: it is powered by 830 MHz ARMv6 processor, Android version 2.3.5Gingerbread operating system, internal memory of 180MB and 290 MB user available RAM, external memory can be expanded through a microSD up to 32GB. It has 3.0-inch multitouch TFT capacitive touchscreen offering 256K colors at the size 240 x 320 pixels (~133 ppi pixel density). The camera is basic at only 2MP with resolution of 1600×1200 pixels. Connectivity wise, the device supports 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, 3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps, WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Hotspot functionality, Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP, HS and a microUSB v2.0.
