Story: Buba starts as we meet Jakob (Madel) who believes he needs to have pain for his loved ones to be happy. This is because after he has a great day, people close to him die suddenly. His brother Dante (Friedrich) works with him in an attempt to become a local con artist.

As Jakob meets Jule (Vulesica) he starts to question his decisions, just as the brothers get a place helping the Albania gangs in the area.

Verdict on Buba

Characters

Jakob Otto has always dreamt of a happy life, but when he sees people hurt around, he believes it is his fault. He starts to make himself suffer, to bring success to the people around him. The bigger the pain the better the success. This leaves him in the middle of the two gangs running the local area, forcing him to suffer for his success.

Dante is Jakob’s brother that usually comes up with the ideas the pair get involved in. He wants to help the brothers make their dream of California a reality.

Jule is the woman that Jakob falls for, a tattoo artist that helps with the pain he needs to give himself. She is torn between a relationship because her daughter doesn’t like Jakob.

In the supporting cast, we have a host of different gangster figures who use the Otto brothers for their deeds.

Performances

The performances in the film are strong, with the characters getting into difficult situations and the performances releasing them from awkward situations.

Story

The story follows a con artist that finds himself caught in between two rival gangsters. He must make himself suffer to see an improvement and success for the people he loves. This will see his life spiral out of control when things start looking good.

The story is one that works to see things spiral out of control quickly and places Jakob in the most difficult situations. It works as an oddball comedy for the most part, with a nice narration side to the story.

Themes

Buba is an action comedy that will use the gangster world for the action side of things. As well as getting comedy for the extra moments poking fun at the criminal world. This will offer plenty of twists and turns along the way, like many other gangster movies before it.

Where to Watch: Buba is available on Netflix.

Final Thoughts Buba is a fun oddball gangster comedy.
