Bryony Williams – ‘You Are Here’ album review

Singer-songwriter Bryony Williams releases her debut album ‘You Are Here’ on 5 February, 2025. The record explores themes of love, self-discovery and resilience while also looking back at the battles you work through to get through this thing called life…

‘Trip Me Up’ opens the record with Postal Service vibes, an air of sadness (‘Taken for a fool again’) and eventual defiance: ‘Watch Me Go’. There’s more of bouncy Britpop energy to ‘Inbetween Days’ with its observation that ‘There’s more to this than what we are’.

‘The Party’ is a sublime piece of storytelling about lost love – ‘At the time they cut so deep, but I’m not about to lose more than 8 hours’ sleep’ – while ‘Checking In; Checking Out’ has an anthemic indie sound in the vein of The National: ‘There’s a voice in my head listening to the mysterious sound’.

‘Berlin’ is more stop-start with a psychedelic edge before the title track finds Bryony singing about the beauty of the sun, ocean and having someone over gentle guitar tones: ‘There’s more to life now that you are here’. ‘Ambrose’ has elements of Nadine Shah as Bryony ponders how she can’t stay with someone. ‘Into Dusk’ is the closing song and is a more restrained finish, with glorious harmonies.

‘You Are Here’ is a record packed with raw emotion and poignant power that will appeal to fans of Lucy Dacus, Sharon Van Etten and The War on Drugs.
