The Criminal Investigations department (CID) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that the Bribery Commission (BC) will file indictments in Colombo High Court against Opposition MP Rajitha Senaratne into the importation of eight deep sea fishing vessels when he (Rajitha Senaratne) was the Fisheries Minister during the previous Yahapalanaya Government.
The CID had earlier informed the Court that an investigation had been launched into the purchasing of the eight vessels and the leasing of the Modara Fishing Harbour following a complaint lodged with the Public Complaints Division of the CID.
Since the Bribery Commission is conducting a separate investigation into the alleged corruption that took place through the incident, the Criminal Investigation Department requested the Court to conclude the proceedings of the case filed before it.
State Minister Sanath Nishantha Perera had lodged the complaint.
The complaint says When Rajitha Senaratne was the Minister of Fisheries, his Coordinating Secretary Don Lalith Anuradha was allegedly involved in importing eight ships for deep sea fishing and leasing out the Modara Fishing Harbour.
The complainant requested the CID to conduct a fair investigation into the incident and arrest the culprits.
