Brian Urlacher is arguably one the best middle linebackers in history of the NFL. I think he deservingly will end up becoming a Hall of Fame athlete. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am a Chicago Bears fan. Having not been born during the Bears only modern-day championship during the vaulted 85’ season many of my memories of Bears highlights include Urlacher making a spectacular play. As much as I respect Urlacher as a player I think he is a bit of a jerk.
In a recent interview he stated: “Two of the people I don’t care about are the fans or media. They can say what they want to about our head coach, about our players. It does bother me. They don’t know what they’re talking about, obviously. I know there are a lot of experts in the media, a bunch of smart guys out there who know exactly what they’re talking about all the time. They don’t know what they’re talking about. Lovie is the head coach of this football team and hopefully will be for a long time.“ Urlacher did not like the booing that was heard during Sunday’s home loss to the rival Green Bay Packers. Urlacher said: “The boos were really loud, which is always nice. The only team in our division that gets booed at home is us…It is unbelievable to me.”
I’m not sure where I should even begin.
First of all, the fans you so carelessly don’t care about the ones that pay your salary. They are the ones who purchase your jerseys and other memorabilia. They are the ones who have supported you your entire career. They are also the ones that have repressed the reality of an aging linebacker and the need to replace him. But since you don’t care, nor will I anymore.
All I know is that my beloved Bears suck. They stink. There aren’t enough adjectives to describe their mediocrity this season. The conclusion isn’t much of a stretch Mr. Urlacher when your team has lost 5 of the last 6 games. That is what is unbelievable! Maybe you are happy making the playoffs every couple of seasons and losing when it counts the most, but I surely I’m not satisfied with a decently talented team consistently screwing it up at the end.
As for the boos you heard on Sunday, your team deserves them and then some. The Lions and the Vikings have both gotten booed at home. Maybe the boos haven’t been as loud in Detroit because no one shows up to their games. Plus Bears fans travel well. In some cases we outnumber the home team fans. These are fans that have cheered for your team no matter the season. They cheered for you during your good seasons and they certainly have cheered for you during the very bad seasons.
I’d also like you to please explain to me how a team that starts 7-1 manages to fall out of playoff contention with two weeks left in the regular season. How is this team 8-6? Maybe instead of complaining about the fans, maybe you should actually win a game or two. Wouldn’t that be a nice change of pace? If you want the cheers you hear at Lambeau Field then win a championship. Otherwise you don’t deserve my adulation.
What I’ve come to realize about the Bears, especially in the last two seasons, is they somehow systematically manage to break my heart game after game. Lovie Smith needs to be fired. And if you feel that he such a great coach then by all means join him in whatever venture is so chooses. Because the reality of the situation is that we need to address the fact that you aren’t the player you once were. And as your play has deteriorated so has your attitude.
