I must apologize in advance for the poor lighting on this post. It was a very dark day and I don't have a sensible light that I can use that will help. Perhaps I should buy one. Its on my list. In any case, I hope it doesn't put you off from making this delicious naan bread breakfast for dinner pizza!
I love pizza and this breakfast for dinner one really appealed to me. I picked the recipe out of the January/February issue of Good Housekeeping.
The original recipe was for four people. I am only one and so I adapted it to make only one serving. You can very easily amp this up to feed as many people as you like!
One thing which really appealed to me was the simplicity of the ingredients required as well as the preparation. I love simple, quick and easy. If it is delicious on top of all that, then you can count me in!
Breakfast for dinner is one of my very favorite things to eat. I don't often feel like having eggs in the morning. Having them at dinner time suits me much more. I am not sure why that is.
When I was a child my mother would cook bacon and eggs for us every Sunday morning. I often gave a pass on the eggs and would enjoy my bacon with some toast and peanut butter. I did not feel deprived. It suited me just fine.
I do like a brunch type of meal later in the morning however. When I first moved to Chester we would often take a bus into the City on Saturday mornings and enjoy a hot Full English Breakfast at the BHS store in the city center.
You paid according to how many items you wanted for your breakfast. On offer were sauteed mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, bacon, sausage, black pudding, baked beans, hash browns, fried bread and toast. Also eggs, any way you wanted them.
Served later in the morning like that I could easily handle eggs. I just don't happen to like them first thing in the morning.
I would always have my eggs, scrambled, along with a sausage. a rasher of bacon, a hashbrown, baked beans and a slice of fried bread. Oddly enough toast was not a given over there. Here in Canada they always serve toast with eggs.
You can access my version of the Full English Fry Up here. All of the usual suspects are present, except for black pudding. That is something I never did acquire a taste for.
A full English is also offered at any B&B you stay at in the U.K. The Brits do love their fry ups and so do the tourists! One of the nicest fry-ups I ever had was at a B&B in a small village on the North Coast of Devon. It was a lovely village right on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park.
I remember I also enjoyed my very first Cream Tea at a tea room there as well. It was one of my favorite holidays, that trip to Devon. Such a beautiful county.
WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE BREAKFAST FOR DINNER NAAN
Very simple ingredients which can very easily be swapped out for whatever you have to hand. I really enjoyed this!
- 1 naan flatbread
- 4 branches of tender stem broccoli (broccolini)
- 1 ounce (30g) Polish Kielbasa, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 roasted red pepper from a jar of roasted peppers, torn
- 1 tsp olive oil
- salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 ounce (30g) Fontina cheese, coarsely grated
- 1 large free range egg
I just used a plain Naan bread for this. I thought the garlic version would be too much contrast with the other flavors and I didn't fancy garlic with the egg.
The original recipe suggested pickled cherry peppers. Those are not available where I live so I used jarred roasted red peppers which I felt were quite close, both in color and flavor. I liked the pop of red it gave to the dish.
If you don't like broccolini/tender stem you can easily swap it with a green vegetable that you do like. I think lightly sauteed Kale would be lovely as would spinach. I am trying hard to get more leafy green vegetables into my diet.
I always use free range eggs. I need to buy them in the organic section of my grocery store when the lady around the corner from me doesn't have any. This is a personal preference on my part.
You can use any good melty kind of cheese, but choose one which has some flavor. I think gouda would also be nice. Don't like kielbasa? Use some other meat that you do like, or leave it out altogether. Bacon would be really delicious as would ham!! The fun of these is that they are perfectly adaptable to individual tastes and whatever you have you have on hand!
HOW TO MAKE BREAKFAST FOR DINNER NAAN
This is really simple and can be on the table, ready to be enjoyed in about 20 minutes or so. Like your eggs more well done? Simply leave them in the oven longer! This was really delicious!
Preheat the oven to 450*F/230*C/ gas mark 7. Line a small baking sheet with some baking parchment. Lay the naan bread, top side up, on the baking parchment.Cut the tender stem broccoli into 1/2 inch pieces, discarding any really thick parts of stem. Place into a bowl. Add the kielbasa and torn pepper. Add the oil and a bit of seasoning and toss together. Scatter across the top of the naan bread, evenly.Sprinkle with the grated cheese. Carefully crack the egg in the center of the bread on top of everything else.Bake for 12 minutes for a slightly runny yolk, rotating the pan halfway through the cook time. Serve hot with additional seasoning as required.
This was really, really good. The naan bread got nice and crispy. Once I broke the yolk open on the egg it went deliciously with the rest of the toppings. If you are not fond of any of them, simply replace with something you are fond of!
Don't like Fontina cheese? Use another melty type of cheese. Bacon would be nice as would sausage. I scattered some baby rocket (arugula) over the top because I had some in the refrigerator and I didn't want it to go to waste. It added a lovely peppery accent that was really enjoyable!

ANYTHING HASH WITH PERFECTLY POACHED EGGS - Any thing hash is a great way to make good use of just whatever you have in your refrigerator that needs using up and topping it with a poached egg, turns it into a well balanced meal, containing some carbs, plenty of veg and a protein.
CRISPY TORTILLA EGGS - Buttery crisp tortillas topped with plenty of cheese, a fried egg, some hot sauce and spring onions. I love these so much I once made them three times in one week. Eggs aren't just for breakfast!

Prep time: 10 MinCook time: 12 MinTotal time: 22 MinEverything goes together on one baking tray. Just crack the egg directly on the naan and then pop into the oven, baking to perfection. Amounts are for one. Simply increase to feed more. This is delicious!Ingredients
