Back in 1882 when Emile Camuset opened his small hosiery store in Romilly-sur-Seine he probably never dreamed that 130 years later his company Le Coq Sportif would be this well-known international brand. Emile had a passion for sport and he started manufacturing sports jerseys. By 1920 it had become the official supplier to France’s professional soccer, rugby, basketball and track and field associations. In 1929 Le Coq Sportif releases its first catalog and creates a jersey specifically for cyclists. 10 Years later they were a well-known and diversified sporting brand in France. That year they invented the sweat suit which the French dubbed ‘The Sunday uniform’. In 1951 they became the official supplier of cycling jerseys for Tour de France. From there the brand continue to rise in popularity like in 1960 when the French Olympic teams wore Le Coq Sportif in the Rome games and in 1981 when the French rugby teams won the then Five Nations tournament.
In 2010 they returned to their roots with the opening of a research center in Romilly-sur-Seine. In 2012 they celebrated their 130 year heritage by sponsoring the Tour de France, going back to their first love.
Today they supply a wide range of performance clothing over a wide range of sport activities. You can also sport the Le Coq Sportif look on the street with their wide range of casual wear and gym clothes. They also have a fantastic range of shoes as well as some awesome collaborations and limited editions.
