Disney opens the live action Cinderella, luckily in a completely open marketplace. Not that people wouldn’t go see it in a crowded marketplace, but it probably wouldn’t be able to pull in as much, or as big of an opening. Lets face it, this version of Cinderella is void of actual stars. But what it lacks in stars, it makes up for with Frozen Fever being attached to the front of the film, and a really great 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. On top of that, as I already mentioned, this marketplace is wide open. Cinderella will be the sole focus of the weekend. Liam Neeson continues his genre of “movies that are vaguely like Taken”, which leads to mixed results. This one has an OK Rotten Tomatoes score of 55%, so people won’t be turned off by bad reviews. With the addition of Ed Harris and Joel Kinnaman, Run All Night should open in the mid-teens as decent counter-programming to Cinderella. Chappie will drop at least 50%, but The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel won’t. Unfinished Business, which barely cracked the top 10 in its first week, will lose its top 10 berth in week two. Congratulations to Kingsman, which broke 100M on Wednesday.
