Box Office Predictions: ‘Chappie’ Set To Win Slow Weekend

Posted on the 06 March 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

Hugh Jackman is really a secondary character in Chappie, so the film will have to soar on its own. Unfortunately, reviews haven’t been kind. Turns out Neill Blomkamp is a one-hit-wonder. Chappie won’t go above 20M due to poor reviews. Focus will hold better than expected due to Chappie’s failure. Unfinished Business is also getting crap reviews, but it still could do moderately well. Kingsman and Spongebob will both have good holds. The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the sequel no one asked for, with so-so reviews, and in a wide release (but not super wide).

1) Chappie- 18M Weekend, 18M Total
2) Focus- 10M Weekend, 36M Total
3) Unfinished Business- 9M Weekend, 9M Total
4) Kingsman- 7.5M Weekend, 98M Total
5) Spongebob Squarepants 2- 7M Weekend, 149M Total
6) The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel- 6.5M Weekend, 6.5M Total
7) Fifty Shades Of Grey- 5M Weekend, 157M Total
8) McFarland USA- 4.5M Weekend, 29M Total
9) American Sniper- 4.5M Weekend, 337M Total
10) The Duff- 4M Weekend, 25M Total
