So I don’t know if I consider this a dud thing or not. I read a few books and I participated in most challenges. I didn’t do all my goals though, I barely had time to read and do challenges let alone commenting to people so that fell flat. I hope I will have more time next time this challenge comes around. Yesterday was a total dud though. I didn’t do any barely reading and I didn’t do the challenge. I accidentally, and I really do mean accidentally, got drunk. One minute I was perfectly fine spacing out my drinks so they barely phased me at all then WHAM they all hit me at once hours later. I didn’t stick with my reading goals all that closely either because I think its better just to do what grabs you in a challenge.

And now onto the final challenge for this read-a-thon! Because of how the times work for me the challenge is still happening while the weeks has actually ended.
5 Book Challenge
It is 11:00 PM on a Sunday night. You are laying in bed thinking about all of the things you must do the next day. Tasks of the coming days consume your thoughts and while your mind is somewhere else you are caught off guard by a flash in the sky that is followed by a large wailing screech that pierces the air and shatters your bedroom window. Slowly you move to the window and what you see catches your breathe and causes you to stumble back a few steps. The aliens (at least you think they are aliens) have began to enter the city and destroy everything that is in their path. Through the window your view is consumed with destruction, screaming people and large flames that are dancing across the city at a fast pace. You notice that the creatures are heading in your direction and you realize you probably have about fifteen minutes before they reach your home. That means you have only about ten minutes to gather your belongings and escape before you are caught in the attack from the aliens invading the city.
Given the short amount of time you are only able to take 5 books with you. What books would you pick to take with you as you escape and prepare for the end of the world. Would you choose books that would help you survive in the post-apocalyptic world ,books for pleasure that would make you happy and take you to a fantasy reality or books that you can’t live without?

Its scenarios raised here where I really wish I had some ‘how to survive in the wild’ kind of books upon my shelf. Will my Man vs Wild memories and my books be enough?!
The books I choose are:
1. On The Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta. This I picked because I would not be able to live without it.
2. The Host by Stephanie Meyer. Its got aliens taking over the world. Surely I can learn something? Its being great is a plus though.
3. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I used to read it at least once a year until my copy died. It also has the added bonus of being a reminder of my mother. (I assume since both my parents are useless they die in the early advances of this invasion so I need memento of each of them).
4. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Because it will remind me that words are beautiful, not just the story they tell.
5.I really really really wanted to give this to The Hobbit or something in honour of my dad, but it doesn’t satisfy my fantasy needs completely so I am giving this spot to The Redemption of Althalus by David Eddings. My dad introduced me to this author though so I still have memories here.
I have only included books I own on my shelves right now. When I get other books on my shelves rather than my kindle this list would change a bit.
