In May, a survey by Resume Genius queried 625 hiring managers about which generation is the hardest to work and declared that 45% of Gen Z are difficult to manage. Not only this, the same survey also found that 50% of Gen Z managers admitted management issues with their generation.
Now, a recent survey by Intelligent.Com enquired 966 business leaders and found that six in 10 employers fired a recent college graduate they fired this year.
Perhaps surprisingly, the generation, who is known as the “fresh mind”, and the class of 2024, will impact the future grads.
After experiencing a list of problems, one out of six hiring managers affirms hesitating to hire new college graduates. Meanwhile, at the same time, 1 in 7 companies says refraining from hiring recent college graduates next year.
Gen Z’s Are “Unprepared” and “Unprofessional”
On the contrary, when the generation is called out to change the workplace into a better space, the survey claims that hiring managers call Gen Z as “unprepared” and “unprofessional.”
According to Intelligent.Com, “Hiring managers say recent college grads are unprepared for the workforce, can’t handle the workload, and are unprofessional.”
The leaders at work state that they are facing intangible challenges that include being late at work and meetings, not wearing office-appropriate clothing, and are not language appropriate for the workspace.
Now more than half of hiring managers have concluded that college graduates are unprepared for the world of work. Additionally, more than 20% say they could not handle the workload.
Moreover, to cope with the situation, the universities are assisting to fill the gap. For instance, Michigan State University helps students handle a network conversation including how to look for signs that the opposite party is annoyed, and wants you to move on.
Bosses Advise to Improve Attitude
When asked by the hiring managers what makes the college graduates more hireable, they said, “A positive attitude and more initiative.”
Huy Nguyen, the Intelligent Chief’s Education and career development advisor, advises the Gen Z to observe their co-workers and understand the culture of the company they join. He said, “Take the initiative to ask thoughtful questions, seek feedback, and apply it to show your motivation for personal growth. Build a reputation for dependability by maintaining a positive attitude, meeting deadlines, and volunteering for projects, even those outside your immediate responsibilities.”
