Manila, Philippines, 04 February 2013 – The year started on a high note for champion coach Norman Black. Having recently been recognized as one of the esteemed recipients of People Asia’s People of the Year awards, Black also made basketball history for steering the Talk ‘n Text Tropang Texters into a triumphant win in the 38th season of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). This is the team’s third consecutive all-Filipino victory.

Black became a household name back in 1989 when he led the San Miguel Beermen into a PBA Grand Slam. He is also well-known for his momentous five-peat UAAP victory with the Ateneo Blue Eagles in recent years. Now with 11 PBA championship titles and several awards under his belt, Black is now considered one of the greatest coaches the PBA has ever seen.

The accomplished coach also recently renewed an endorsement contract with Skil, one of the most recognized brands in the power tool industry. “I am overwhelmed by the company’s continued trust and support,” said Black. “This will be my third year working with the Skil team. The past 2 years had been a blast. I look forward to working with them for another exciting year.”

Black is part of Skil’s latest community building campaign Paint the Town Red, which aims to construct basketball half-courts in 40 selected barangays nationwide. The campaign underscores Skil power tools‘ commitment to giving back to the Philippine community through projects aimed at community building and youth development.

“We are very priviliged to have Norman Black back onboard. He has been and continues to personify what Skil stands for – precision and performance,“ said Martin Valenzuela, Skil Brand Manager, Bosch Philippines. “Norman does more than put a face behind the brand. He is very hands on and hosts shoot out contests and 3-on-3 basketball tournaments with members of the communities. He is very involved with the people and with our projects.”

Since the Paint the Town Red campaign launch on October 19, Skil has constructed half-courts in Bangkal, San Francisco Del Monte, Sampaloc and Binondo. Skil is now taking the campaign on the road with a court turnover in Cebu on February 16.
